ACRYLIC HIGH GLOSS SELF-HEALING TOPCOAT SAYERLACK TLV3778/00
8 October 2018 by Fabio Piras in News

TLV3778/00 is an acrylic high gloss topcoat with high build, glossy, and performing like a standard acrylic paint, but with the ability of self-heal most part of the damages due to mechanical stress. The self-repairing materials are able to recover, partially or totally, mechanical damage either independently or in response to an external stimulus; the resilient materials, more particularly, have the ability to return to the original form after being deformed. These intelligent materials arise from the need to extend the useful life of products while preserving their mechanical integrity and/or function. TLV3778/00 is a resilient polish that forms a plastic film apparently vulnerable but with the ability to recover the initial shape giving it scratch resistance UNI15185 > 1.8 N, with particular efficiency in the most common damages such as rubbing with clothes or buttons. Recovery takes a few minutes/hours depending on the severity of the damage. Thanks to the ability to recover most of the damage caused by stress the appearance of the product can be kept unchanged over time. Recommended especially for interiors with surfaces frequently solicited as tables or desks. The TLV3778/00 topcoat has been designed for flat parts and high-end furniture. The main strenghts, in addition to self-healing power, are transparency, elasticity, build, non-yellowing, levelling and tintability. Similarly to any other high gloss acrylic topcoat, the preparation of the substrate is a critical point for the final result in terms of appearance. It is therefore recommended to carefully sand the polyester basecoat prior the application. Obviously the film can self-heal most part of scratches caused by pressure and is not effective against cuts and tears. Applicable by spraying systems, including high pressure, on raw or substrates pretreated with clear or pigmented basecoats, preferably unsatured polyesters. TLV3778/00 should be prepared with 50% TH0790/00 hardener and diluted with 20-40% DT0424/00. It’s applied in one coat without fading, after careful sanding and cleaning of the support. At room temperature the drying of the product follows these phases: dust free 80’, touch free 8 h, stackability 48 h, brush 4-5 days. TLV3778/00 is compatible with the pastes of the series TP2009/XX up to 20% w/s; the smaller the amount of paste added, the greater the self-healing effect will be. TLV3778/00 protects and defends, remedying
